8k Compliance has been founded with the aim of restoring American pride and patriotism by locating and replacing tattered, worn, or otherwise unserviceable American flags free of charge. The organization was founded in February 2023 by Joshua Dennison, a veteran who himself turned his life around after serving a prison sentence for drug offenses in 2014.
Dennison, who calls himself "The New Flag Guy," first came up with the idea for 8k Compliance while working on a construction job that required him to travel frequently. "Everywhere I went, I kept seeing American flags that were just way overdue to be retired and replaced," he says. "One day I decided that I was going to buy enough flags to always have an extra just in case I came across one that needed to be retired. When I found the first one, the homeowner gave me a twenty dollar bill and said, 'this will help you replace the next one'. That's when it hit me - there is a problem in America that I had the ability to help solve."
The mission of 8k Compliance is to ensure that every American flag that is flown is in good condition and a source of pride for those who see it. Dennison envisions a day when every person who travels on our streets and highways will see the American flag, in all its glory, being flown proudly, as it should be.
"My life was in shambles," Dennison says, reflecting on his past. "I turned to drugs. When I went to prison, I was offered the opportunity to attend college. I earned an associate's degree from Ashland University shortly before being released." Now, Dennison sees 8k Compliance as an opportunity to give back to the community and help restore American pride.
